Veronika Bednářová was in New York on September 11th, 2001. This September 14th, she met with the members of the newly established Ladies Club at the American Center to discuss her experiences in the US, which she has written about in her book American Beauty.
Tuesday September 11th is clearly etched in her memory. Ms. Bednářová was staying just a few blocks from the World Trade Center when the planes hit, and with a journalist instinct she ran toward 'Ground Zero' as most people were running away. In her book American Beauty (2006), she leads the reader throught New York, Washington and Sillicon Valley (or Spillvill), where composer Antonín Dvořák lived with his family and worked during the summer of 1893.
The Ladies Club of the American Center meets once every two months to celebrate the extraordinary work and lives of Czech and American women. Please stay tuned for more information on the next meeting of the Ladies Club.
