U.S. Congressional Delegation Discusses Human Rights in Prague En Route to OSCE Meeting in Vienna

February 21, 2008

A congressional delegation led by Senator Benjamin Cardin of Maryland stopped in Prague on the way to the winter session of the OSCE in Vienna. Senator Cardin, Co-chairman of the Helsinki Commission and Congressman Alcee Hastings, Chairman of the Helsinki Commission, met with Czech government officials, Jewish community leaders and Roma activists, and toured Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

At RFE/RL, the delegation discussed human rights, Kosovo and Russia, among other topics, at a press roundtable, with many questions focusing on the human rights situation in the countries RFE/RL broadcasts to.  Senator Cardin stressed his appreciation of Czech support for Cuba, Belarus, Burma, and other countries struggling for rights which some take for granted.
