American Day at the Summer School of Journalism 2011 Provides the U.S. Experiece
August 19, 2011
The relationship between diplomats and journalists was one the topics of the discussion with Paul Oglesby, Press Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Prague, at the Summer School of Journalism in Havlickuv Brod. Future journalists attending the American Day program with the U.S. Press Attaché were also interested in how the Embassy responds to crises or controversial issues.
Another guest of the American Day was Eric Best, U.S. journalist and publisher of the „The Fleet Sheet“, a daily English-language news bulletin devoted to the business and political activities in the Czech Republic. He warned the students about the changes in the media market and pointed out the declining role of the tradional mass media.
The 7th year of the Summer School of Journalism took place on August 14—21, 2011 and its theme was „Media, Politics, Culture and History of Middle Europe.“ The summer camp, which is a favorite among Czech students interested in journalism, offered not only numerous lectures and discussions, but also practical exercises in broadcast, print and online journalism work. Besides that, the students had the opportunity to meet with important media personalities from Central Europe, including Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Poland.
