Students Conference at the American Center Connects Azerbaijan, Czech and American Teachers

April 25, 2008

The American Center hosted The National Students’ Conference on Deliberating in a Democracy (DID) on Tuesday, April 22. The U.S. NGO - StreetLaw, Inc., together with American teachers, joined about 40 Czech students to discuss Global Climate Change.  The main goal of the conference is to motivate American and Azerbaijan teachers to conduct Deliberating in Democracy project activities with the Czech Republic.

Students in teams deliberated the climate change topic and conducted a poll of public opinion in local streets. They discussed the issue with Marek Louzek from Center for Economics and Politics and Vojtech Kotecky from a Czech ecological association Hnuti Duha/Pratele Zeme. The two experts presented controversial opinions to environmental issues. All participants - coordinators, guests from partnership NGOs, Czech teachers and students evaluated this year results and also discussed follow-up projects. The conference coordinated by the Partners Czech highlighted the involvement of Czech secondary school students in 2007/2008 DID projects.
