St. Wenceslas Day/Statehood Day

This day commemorates the martyrdom of the “Good King Wenceslas” (Václav) who was killed by his brother allegedly on September 28, 935. During his reign, Václav helped Prague become the center of Christianity and international trade in central Europe. According to Czech legend, Václav will return to save the nation in a time of great need. Václav is traditionally the patron saint of the Czech Republic.
