Czech Students Discussed Czech-American Topics with U.S. Diplomats
U.S. diplomat Margaret Bula-Duane talks to Czech students of Gymnasium Na Pražačce
March 9, 2009
U.S. diplomats Scott Riedmann, Margaret Bula-Duane, Amanda Mansour and Lori Johnson visited on March 3-4 Prague’s Gymnasium Na Pražačce for face-to-face discussions with Czech students on topics ranging from the American political system and institutions, to the future of nuclear energy, and students‘ personal experiences from living in America.
The group used the opportunity to underscore the principles of the U.S. Constitution and explore how the ability to formulate policy is derived from those fundamental constitutional powers. This led to a broader discussion about the U.S. government’s domestic, foreign and economic policies and how newly elected U.S. President Barack Obama is sparking debate in the U.S. as he attempts to shift U.S. policy with respect to health care, education, climate change and other issues. The presentations ended with a dialogue about Czech government policies and their effect on the students.
