Experts Start Series of Discussions on Transparent Public Procurements

Ambassador Eisen gave welcoming remarks on February 24 at a seminar on transparent public procurement, which featured a group of Czech and international experts including Elisabeth Wright, Director of International Defence Acquisition Resource management Program at the US Naval Postgraduate School; and Jan Pavel, Advisor to Czech Prime Minister on public procurement and anti-corruption, sharing ideas and international best practices in public procurement.

American, Czech, British, and German experts examined areas of procurement reform and discussed ways to overcome common obstacles in developing procurement solutions that maximize the effective use of public funds.  The audience included key stakeholders, legislators, and decision makers, as well as the media and the interested public. 

The seminar was organized by the Respekt Institut and Transparency International Czech Republic in partnership with the Embassy of the United States, the British Embassy, the Embassy of Germany, and the Open Society Fund Prague as part of the “Month of enhancing integrity and transparency.”

The seminar is first of a three part series of transparency seminars – the next seminar will take place on March 10th, 2011 and will focus on Civil Service independence. The final seminar in the series is planned for  March 24th, 2011. Its topic will be International Anti-corruption Obligations.
