On March 10th, Ambassador Norman Eisen took part in a seminar on public administration independence, which explored both legislative and non-legislative measures to enhance the professionalism and ensure the independence of the civil service.

In panel discussion Ambassador Eisen shared the U.S. experience with developing a professional and independent public administration as a key condition for the prevention of corruption.  Panelists included German Ambassador Johannes Haindl,  Professor Kai Bussmann from the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Deputy Minister of Interior František Vavera, and British expert Eleanor Goodison from the Catelyns House Ltd.

The seminar was the second of a three-part series of transparency seminars organized by Transparency International Czech Republic and the Respekt Institute, in partnership with the British Embassy, the U.S. Embassy, the German Embassy and the Open Society Fund.

The first seminar took place in the American Center on February 24 and was focused on transparent public procurement. The final seminar in the series is planned for March 24, 2011. It’s topic will be international anti-corruption obligations.
