Czech Professor Compared Czech and the U.S. Tertiary Education

December 15 — On Wednesday, December 3 in the American Center John Law, Acting Deputy of Mission of the American Embassy in Prague opened the lecture on Contemporary Challenges in Higher Education in the Czech Republic which was presented by Professor Vladimíra Dvořáková for students and educators of social sciences from the Pedagogical Faculty of Palacký University in Olomouc.

Professor Vladimíra Dvořáková, a respected political scientist and professor at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of International Relations, University of Economics in Prague, is at present more popular as President of the Czech Accreditation Commission due to her involvement in investigating ill-famed case of the Law Faculty in Pilsen. Dvořáková mentioned in her lecture student recruitment and student motivation, the role of faculty on university governance and the role of student governance and funding tertiary education.

She compared the Czech and the U.S. tertiary education as she had an opportunity to get closely acquainted with the U.S. system during her participation on the International Visitor Leadership Program in 2008. Audience questions were naturally on the U.S. and Czech accreditation systems and quality of studies.
