Abraham LincolnInitially this holiday was created to celebrate the birth of America’s first president George Washington, who was born on February 22, 1732. Whereas this holiday was intended to celebrate Washington’s birth, many Americans now celebrate the birth of Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809) as well because the holiday falls between the birthdates of these presidents.
