The US Embassy in Prague was pleased to support the 2009 Prague Student Summit (PSS) organised by the Association of International Affairs from March 6-9, 2009.
Prague Student Summit is a prestigious meeting of students from all over the Czech Republic, who are actively interested in international relations. For the first time in history, the Czech students, both high school and university, will be provided with the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of high-level, diplomatic negotiations of three key international organizations: the United Nations, NATO and the European Union.
We asked students from Prague's School of International and Public Relations and Gymnasium Nad Alejí for their personal impressions about the Summit:
Karel Mařík, School of International and Public Relations, Prague
„I am one of students participating in the Prague Student Summit (PSS). I was a member of American delegation, and I represented US interests on the economics and social councils. The invitation by American center was a very nice surprise, and it was a unique opportunity for me to ask so many esteemed guests about investments in science, research and development, and the economic crisis. I put this information to practical use in the final conference, so I am very happy for the invitation from the US Embassy.“
Jana Berousková – School of International and Public Relations, Prague
„I was also a member of American delegation. I represented US interests on the Human Rights Commission, even though the US is not an actual member. Questions about out-of-court executions and labour migration were a big challenge for me, so the visit of American Center was a unforgettable experience for me. I gladly represented the U.S., out of my own convictions. I really appreciate the time of the guests and Mr. Konvalina’s hospitality – thanks to him, we spent two hours in the American Center, participating in a very interesting debate. It is a great opportunity for us to use the resources of the American Center Library and I look forward to many interesting lectures at the AC in the future.“
Šimon Podhajský, Gymnasium Nad Alejí, Prague
„Representing U.S. interests in NATO was a brand-new experience for me, and I really appreciate this invitation. It was even a bigger pleasure for me when I discovered that security policy and NATO experts such as American Diplomat Patrick Ellsworth were involved. My questions focus on Russia-Georgia relations or Iraq and Afghanistan security. I was very satisfied with the information that I received from the American Center, which I used at the closing conference session of PSS.
