U.S. Embassy on Death of American Citizen in Prague

Prague, January 30, 2008 

On January 30, 2008, the U.S. Embassy in Prague learned of the death of an individual now confirmed to be an American citizen.  For privacy reasons, and out of respect for the family of the deceased, the U.S. Embassy will not be releasing the name of the individual.  We can confirm that he was a civilian employee of a private U.S. company that has a contract to work with the U.S. Department of Defense in Germany.  He was on a private visit in Prague, unrelated to his work.  The incident is being investigated by Czech law enforcement.  The Embassy is confident there will be a thorough investigation and that if Czech authorities find a crime has been committed, it will be prosecuted.
