TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS REPORT 2007

Prague, June 12, 2007

 Report cover
The U.S. Embassy in the Czech Republic would like to announce the release of the United States Trafficking in Persons Report for 2007.  A U.S. federal law, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, requires the Secretary of State to submit to Congress an annual report on Trafficking in Persons.  The Department has prepared the seventh such report.  The following text is only an excerpt from the report concerning the Czech Republic.  The entire report is available at http://www.state.gov/g/tip. You can find links to more State Department reports here.

From the report:

CZECH REPUBLIC (Tier 1 country)*

The Government of the Czech Republic fully complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking. The Czech Republic made several positive efforts over the reporting period, including: the creation of a new forced labor police unit; the elimination of a program of exploitative North Korean contract labor for private industry in the Czech Republic; and the funding of a demand reduction campaign in several regions of the country and in Ukraine.

For further information or requests for interview please contact the U.S. Embassy Press Office, tel: (+420) 257-022-202 or 257 022 002; fax (+420) 257-022-814.

* Governments that fully comply with the Act’s minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking are placed on Tier 1. Those making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance are placed on Tier 2. Countries whose governments are not making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance are placed on Tier 3.
