Major U.S. Hepatitis A Vaccination Donation

Prague, August 29, 2002

U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic Craig Stapleton met this morning with the Minister of Health Marie Soucková to discuss the impact of recent floods on the public health situation, as well as flood relief aid provided by the U.S. Ambassador Stapleton informed the Ministry of a donation valued at CZK 30m (approximately USD 1m) to cover part of the cost of Hepatitis A vaccine, recently ordered by the Ministry. The financial support for the vaccine is the result of a combination of contributions from PhRMA and MAFS, two major associations of research-based pharmaceutical companies, from the U.S. Agency for International Development and from the GSM operator Eurotel. Representatives of the four parties accompanied Ambassador Stapleton to a press conference held by the Minister of Health at the Ministry premises.
