In the early morning hours of 9 August 2007, eight Czech military officers, one Czech representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and two U.S. Army officers from the U.S. Embassy in Prague flew to Afghanistan to conduct a site survey of the location where the Czech Republic will establish a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).
This PRT will bring assistance to the local population in order to improve their lives, offer alternative values to the extremist message promoted by the terrorist influences in the area, and offer hope for a better future to all who live there. Visiting this site and meeting with U.S. military forces currently operating there in August was the first step in preparing for this noble allied mission.
The U.S. military’s Combined Joint Task Force - 82, currently occupying the territory in which the Czech PRT would operate, greeted their future partners with great enthusiasm. There is no doubt that the Czech military is ready to execute this mission and that the Afghan people need this vital help.
Such a contribution from the Czech Republic would go a long way in stopping terrorism before it had the chance to reestablish its deadly, destructive grip over Afghanistan.
