MD Changes Will Not Affect Scientific Cooperation
Ceska televize (February 14, 2009, prime time news) - Changes in the proposed missile defense will not affect cooperation on scientific and military projects. John Law, Attaché for Press and Cultural Affairs at Embassy Prague, said: ”The U.S. has a big interest in the cooperation with the CR in the fields of scientific research and development.
The cooperation will continue.” Vladimir Marik, national coordinator of the U.S.-Czech scientific projects, noted: “In January, 21 directors and managers from the defense industry visited us and are in search for cooperation. I think that it is [the cooperation] expanding and the link to the radar fades away.”
The Czech Defense Industry Association hopes that the signed contracts are fulfilled. Czech Defense Ministry spokesman Andrej Cirtek said that expert teams on both sides are still negotiating various technical details of the potential radar.
