Little Abdul Visits the Embassy

June 26, 2008

Abdul Wajid, who is eleven, came from Afghanistan as part of the Czech MEDEVAC program to have a hip operation. Before the operation, which was done here in Prague just after his April arrival, Abdul walked with difficulty and with a limp.  During the Ambassador’s visit to Ricany hospital on June 2, the Ambassador presented Abdul, who was still confined to a bed at that point, with several small gifts from the Embassy community, one of which was a soccer ball from the Marines.

He has progressed quite rapidly since the operation and he is beginning to walk short distances without his crutches.  On Wednesday, June 25, he visited the Embassy. The Ambassador and Mrs. Graber gave him a soccer outfit and Abdul had a chance to meet the entire Marine Detachment at the Embassy.  Abdul and the Marines also had a chance to play some soccer in the Embassy’s back garden.  Fortunately, no one was injured during the game.
