June 19, 2009

In the middle of a marathon of readings, conversations and book signings, the 19th Prague Writers’ Festival awarded its annual Knight of Culture Award for cultural philanthropy. This year, the beautiful bronze statue “Lady of the Lake / Jezerní panna” by noted Czech sculptor Olbram Zoubek was presented by festival president Michael March to the U.S. Embassy in Prague for its long-term support of the Prague Writers’ Festival. On behalf of the Embassy, it was received by Cultural Attaché, Mr. David Gainer at the Laterna Magika Theater on June 10.

The award was created in 2003 by the Foundation Fund of the Prague Writers’ Festival and to date its recipients include the Czech Airlines, the City of Prague, the Guardian, Hotel Josef, Česká plynárenská, and Czech Tourism.
