In Havlickuv Brod, US Speakers Encourage Students to Look at Journalism in a New Way

August 21, 2009

During a 2-day span, Edmund Lambeth, a professor emeritus at the University of Missouri’s prestigious School of Journalism, urged 45 students from the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany to view journalism in a broad societal context. Considering the media’s fundamental role in a democracy, Prof. Lambeth asked, what is the way forward for an industry in the throes of a major post-Internet upheaval? How can we ensure its continued quality? How can we make it profitable?

Charge d’Affaires Mary Thompson-Jones, herself a former journalist, picked up on Prof. Lambeth’s theme as she explored the intersection between journalism and diplomacy and how new media has changed the way embassies worldwide reach the public.
