Conference participants present their cultural traditions.

On January 10th, the American Center hosted sessions of the 23rd International Youth Leadership Conference. Over 60 university students from around the world attended. The week long conference is coordinated by Civic Concepts International twice a year. It brings together students from different cultural and ethnic environments and backgrounds that will have a profound impact on their society with an internationally broad mindset.

In the morning session Lucie Sládková, Director of the International Organization of Migration in the Czech Republic, Markéta Ruhlíková, Visiting Porfessor of Sociology at Williams College, and Kristýna Andrlová, Coordinator for International issues from Amnesty International, gave presentations on issues of migration and human rights.

Later in the day Lukáš Sedláček from the European Leadership & Academic Institute moderated a panel discussion on political situation in Arab countries and issues related to the recent uprisings. The panellists were Mitchell Belfer from the Central European Journal of International & Security Studies, and Ondřej Ditrych from the Institute of International Relations. In the cultural evening program students of thirty ethnic nationalities gathered to present in special showcases their cultural traditions.

On July 24th, 2012, the American Center will be hosting the session of the 24th IYLC Conference which will be held July 22nd – 27th.
