Ambassador Eisen Took Part in a Seminar on International Obligations Against Corruption
March 25, 2011
On March 24th, Ambassador Norman Eisen took part in a seminar on international obligations against corruption organised by Transparency International - Czech Republic and the Respekt Institute in partnership with the British Embassy, the Embassy of the United States, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Open Society Fund in Prague.
The 3nd seminar of the “Transparency and Integrity Month” dealt with international treaties against corruption and with British and US anti-bribery Acts and their impact on the Czech business environment.
International legal obligations regarding the prevention of corruption regulate both measures adopted by governments and the behaviour of business towards greater transparency and accountability.
The discussion at the American Center touched on some specific issues, such as whistle-blowing from the corporate point of view and international legal assistance. The Czech view was complemented by experience from the UK, USA and Germany.
Panelists included Helena Lišuchová (Department of International Cooperation, Czech Ministry of Justice), Stanislav Mečl (Deputy Prosecutor General), Alena Gajdůšková (Vice chairman of the Senate, Parliament of the Czech Republic), George Dallas (International Corporate Governance Network, USA), Katie Schoultz (Department of Public administration, Czech Ministry of Interior), Marcus Lohmeier (Partner, Ernst & Young, Germany), Roderick Macauley (Ministry of Justice of the United Kingdom).
