    On April 22, Ambassador Schapiro celebrated Earth Day with a group of children at Hostetin, a model eco village at the foot of the White Carpathian Mountains in the Zlín Region.

    To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of then Czechoslovakia at the end of World War II, Ambassador Schapiro visited the town of Benešov and the Konopiště chateau on April 17.

    Ambassador Andrew Schapiro visited the South Moravian capital Brno on April 14. He began his visit by opening the renovated American Space called “InfoUSA” at the Moravian Land Library.

    As I said on Czech television, in response to a question, it is not for me to tell the President where he should go, and I understand the desire to honor all who sacrificed in World War II, but I think it would be unfortunate for President Zeman to be there as perhaps the only EU head of state, watching a military parade, at a time when Russian troops are destabilizing a neighbor in violation of international law.

    Embassy Cyclists Retrace General Patton’s Journey to Plzen

    A dozen U.S. Embassy Prague cyclists spent April 22 retracing the route that General Patton’s Third Army Division took when liberating the region seventy years ago. The group visited the towns of Domazlice, Horsovsky Tyn, Holysov and Dobrany, and finished their ride at the “Thank You, America” monument in Plzen.

    Almost thirty Czech importers and distributors attended the Commercial Service presentation on the U.S. Pet and Veterinary Import Market at the FOR PETS Prague trade fair. The presentation included an update on current trends in the U.S. pet and veterinary sectors.

    Ambassador Schapiro Tours GE Aviation Czech in Prague-Letňany

    On April 16, Ambassador Andrew Schapiro visited GE Aviation in Prague-Letňany, the only place outside of the United States where GE Aviation builds aircraft engines. The Ambassador was among the guests invited to GE Aviation Czech to celebrate a successful 2014.
