Czech Republic Confirms Seventh Case of A/N1H1 Virus

June 19, 2009

The Czech National Reference Laboratory identified on June 19 the seventh case of A/H1N1 virus, or Mexican Flu.  A 28-year-old Prague woman returning from New York suffered from respiratory problems and sought medical treatment at the Na Bulovce Teaching Hospital in Prague. As her illness was mild she was not hospitalized: her condition is improving with home care.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently increased the influenza pandemic to Level 6, meaning it has caused sustained human-to-human outbreaks in numerous regions.  Globally, the virus has thus far killed 140 people. 25,560 people from 73 countries have been infected.
