Today, Mary Thompson-Jones, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.s. Embassy Prague, was honored to accept a 24-carat gold medal commemorating President Obama's visit to the Czech Republic, which will be passed on to the President during his stay in Prague.
Petr Tulpa, Mayor of the city of Jablonec, and Senator Sona Paukertova came to the Charge's office to present the medal that was minted at the historical Jablonec mint. Thompson-Jones thanked the mayor, senator and Jablonec mint for the generous gift and added that, "This gift signifies not only our President's visit, but also the historical friendship between our two countries."
The plaster model for the gold medals was designed by Jiří Dostál. The front side features the portrait of President Barack Obama with symbolic stripes against the background. The reverse side shows the Prague Castle and the White House.
