March 16, 2009
American Center introduces new program called: “Get to Know Barack Obama – President of the USA”. Monday through Thursday afternoons the American Center Library shows the 44th U.S. president’s biography, displays historical mementos from Obama’s inauguration and offers publications with interviews of Obama´s friends and colleagues. The 45-minute video follows Barack Obama from his birth in Hawaii to the moment the Democratic Party nominated him for the presidency in the summer of 2008.
In the library’s display cases visitors will find souvenirs from Obama’s January inauguration such as inauguration pins, posters - and even commemorative subway tickets and an Obama shawl Bata University student Markéta Zezulková brought from Washington, D.C.
You can see more of Markéta’s inauguration experience on the embassy’s You Tube video channel. Take the time to browse through our US political and social magazines’ special editions about the Obama family, including first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malii. Unique is also signed copy of the book “Yes, We Can”.
If you arrange it ahead of time, American Center Director Miroslav Konvalina will happily accompany you on your tour through the Obama program.
Every visitor will receive a copy of the publication ”Barack Obama – 44th President of the United States”, which we have in both Czech and English. School and libraries can also request copies of this publication or a special screening of President Obama’s biobraphy at acprague@state.gov.
