Non-Immigrant Visas

PLEASE NOTE: With the approach of the flu and cold season, we request that you not come to the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit for your appointment if you are not feeling well or are exhibiting flu-like symptoms. Instead, please contact us by email at CONSPRAGUE@STATE.GOV and we will be happy to help you reschedule your appointment. Thank you for your cooperation.

General Information

Nonimmigrant visas are for international travelers coming to the U.S. temporarily. This visa allows you to travel to a U.S. airport or land border and request permission of an immigration inspector to enter the U.S. A visa does not guarantee entry into the United States.

International travelers come to the U.S. for a wide variety of reasons, including tourism, business, study, and certain types of temporary work.  The type of visa needed is defined by immigration law, and relates to the purpose of your travel.  A complete list of non-immigrant visa types is available on the State Department travel Web page.
