Petr Kučera
Near Eastern Specialist

During the 2006/2007 academic year, Petr Kučera studied Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University under the Fulbright program. Upon his return in Prague, Petr  defended his PhD. thesis which focused on perceptions of "West" and "East" in Turkish literature between the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries.

Mr. Kučera currently teaches Turkish and literature at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. He continues to pursue research into Turkish literature from the late-Osmanic and early Republican eras.  His translation of Orhana Pamuk´s novel "My name is Red” was awarded the 2008 Magnesia Litera award as the best Czech translation of the year.
