1st American Franchise Day - FrAMchise Day 2009
October 20 – The Czech Franchise Institute (ČIFRA) and the Foreign Commercial Service of the United States Embassy organized a FrAMchise Day 2009 – 1st American Franchise Day on October 20, 2009 at the Hilton Prague Old Town hotel.
Over thirty successful American franchise brands and entrepreneur concepts participated at the event. The trade show with an impressive number of overseas franchise brands was organized for the first time in the CR. The program also addressed the importance of franchising and marketing. The event focused on discussing the possibilities of broader franchising applications in the Czech market and the elimination of obstacles in different entrepreneurial environments. The speakers also presented recent research on Czechs’ view of American brands, current trends in alimentation, and the impact of shopping centers.
In an interview with Czech Business Weekly, President Jaroslav Tamchyna of ČIFRA said that American brands are successful because their philosophy is very near to the Czech mentality, however, he added that there are some challenges ahead of American companies before entering the Czech market: “If you compare how Americans and Czechs think, Czechs, when they start a new business, use relations and soft skills and not only hard competition. I think that it’ll be difficult sometimes to compare these two philosophies and styles of entrepreneurship. At this conference, we would like to point out those differences and barriers and eventually overcome them.”
