Senate Opens ‘Czech PRT in Afghanistan’ Exhibit

August 20, 2009

A photographic exhibit about the Czech Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Afghanistan’s Logar Province opened on August 18th at the Czech Senate. The main areas of Czech assistance include agriculture, education and the health sector.

“I’m glad the Senate offered its space for this unique exhibition that shows the public the very demanding and largely unpublicized work of Czechs in Afghanistan. The experts work there side by side with Czech soldiers who continue in our military’s best traditions,” said Senate Chairman Premysl Sobotka.

Foreign Minister Jan Kohout, Defense Minister Martin Bartak, Afghan Ambassador to the Czech Republic Mohammad Fazelly and U.S. Charge d’Affaires Mary Thompson-Jones were also present at the exhibition, which will remain until the end of October.

The Czech Republic assumed responsibility for the Logar Provincial Team in 2008.
