Czech and American Paratroopers Train in Southern Bohemia
August 13, 2009
Czech paratroopers from the 43rd Airborne Battalion in Chrudim and their counterparts from the Colorado National Guard trained together for three weeks in July and August in the Boletice Military Area in southern Bohemia. The training included “friendship jumps” from a C-130 Hercules airplane near the town of Bechyne, north of Boletice, during the day and again at dusk.
“We are very pleased with what we have seen. All these Czech facilities are wonderful,” noted Sergeant First Class Joshua Lyon. He said that besides preparation for combat, the jumps’ main aim is to build stronger ties with other units.
The commanding officer of the Czech paratroopers, who attended the U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia and has 60 jumps, said “The cooperation with the Americans is great, we still can learn from them.”
