Notary Services

Notary services are provided for documents intended for use in the U.S. and Czech Republic.

Please note that the U.S. Embassy Prague is not authorized to produce an apostille.  This certification can only be obtained by the state in which the particular document was originally issued.  Contact information for individual state authentication offices can be found in the Apostille Handout. For additional information about apostille requirements, please review this site

Under some circumstances, the Czech Government may accept certain U.S. legal documents without an apostille.  It is necessary to consult with the appropriate Czech Government office, however, to determine the requirements.  Depending on the specific document, the U.S. Embassy may attach an official letter stating that the given document appears to be valid.  An original or certified copy of the document is required.  There is no fee for this service, but you must visit the ACS office during office hours.

Application Instructions:

All persons whose signatures are required on a given document to be notarized must be present.  The document to be notarized must be in order and not signed.

  • Proof of your identity.  A photo ID, such as your most recent passport, driver’s license or Czech identification, is required.
  • USD $30 fee.  Each subsequent document to be notarized are charged a fee of USD $20.  The fee can be paid in U.S. dollars, Czech korun or by credit card.

Method of Application:

An appointment is not necessary, but you must apply during office hours.

Processing Time:

The notarization takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on the volume of customers at the time you arrive.
