Celebrating Common Bonds - Exhibition of Vojtech Preissig

September 17, 2008

On September 11, Ambassador Graber opened the "For the Republic" exhibition, a collection of graphic designs by Vojtech Preissig (1873-1944), featuring the famous recruiting posters and leaflets Preissig designed during his 20 years in the U.S. before and during WWI.  Preissig's work was part of the exile movement backing the establishment of an independent Czechoslovakia.  In his remarks, Ambassador Graber stressed the historic importance of the ties between the U.S. and the Czech Republic, which date back to 1918 when the U.S. strongly supported Czechoslovakian independence.
