From Darwin to U.S. Foreign Policy

December 9, 2009 — Bradley Thayer, noted political science professor from Baylor University, has delivered a series of lectures in the Czech Republic on a variety of topics. Between November 30 and December 1, 2009, Professor Bradley Thayer addressed three different student audiences with three different topics:

“American Empire,” presented at the American Center, U.S. Embassy, Prague, Czech Republic, December 1, 2009.  Thayer lectured on the concept of grand strategy and the benefits and liabilities of the preponderant position of the United States in international politics. 

“Darwin and International Relations,” presented at the Interdisciplinary Center, University of Hradec Kralove, Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, December 1, 2009.  Thayer discussed the role of human evolution for providing fundamental explanations of the origins of warfare and ethnic conflict.

“Nuclear Proliferation and U.S. Foreign Policy,” presented at International Institute of Political Science, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, November 30, 2009.  Thayer explained why the United States views the spread of nuclear weapons as one of the most important problems in international politics, and why Iran and North Korea pose particular dangers due to the rise of nuclear networks which accelerate nuclear proliferation.

Professor´s Bradley Thayer trip to the Czech Republic was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Prague. He is looking forward to returning to the Czech Republic in March 2010 to lecture at the Masaryk University in Brno.
