Arnowitt Plays Jazz for Visually Impaired People

February 15, 2008

Ambassador Graber hosted a concert by the U.S. group ImproVisions Jazz Quartet at the U.S. Residence.  The concert honored organizations and volunteers working for– and with– visually impared people.  U.S. performing pianist Michael Arnowitt, partially blind from the disease "retinitis pigmentosa", is on tour in Europe and also performed at the Teplice Jazz Club. Well-known Prague Jazz guitarist Tony Ackermann sat in on several numbers.

The ImproVisions Jazz Quartet includes piano, tenor saxophone, bass, and drums. In 2005, the Quartet performed in Prague at the Reduta Club as part of the 29th International Jazz Festival Prague, and also at the Deylova Konzervator, a music school for blind students.
