Do you think the upcoming U.S. presidential election will bring a significant change to U.S. foreign policy? It could, at least in the beginning of an Obama presidency. If Obama does what he says, he could pull US troops out quickly from Iraq, which could destabilize not only Iraq but the entire region. John McCain would not do that. Obama could be more protectionists in trade than McCain, and would likely try to call a regional security conference with Iran, which McCain would be unlikely to do. (more)

Ms. Michelle Wiedel, the reigning Czech-Slovak USA Queen, visited the Czech Republic, the land of her ancestors, on Tuesday, May 13. Michelle, tell us about you, your family and heritage? I just finished my junior year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am currently studying to obtain two degrees: Business and Journalism, majoring in marketing and advertising. This summer I have an internship in New York City to explore a career in the advertising and public relations field. I am also very involved in activities in the community and on campus. (more)

How do you think media will look in 2020? I think that the information we receive from media will look about the same, but we’ll be receiving more of it on mobile devices and platforms we haven’t even imagined yet. My students think it’s funny when I tell them I didn’t have email in college— but then I tell them their kids will think the same thing about how they are tied to desktop computers and learn in physical classrooms! Why are these elections called "historical"? For the first time in history, either an African American man or a woman will be the nominee of a major political party. This seems to me a transforming event, regardless of whether Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama goes on to the White House. It can´t help but affect social attitudes overall. And it sends a message of openness and diversity the Americans can be proud of, regardless of party. (more)
