"The Devine in Salt Lake City" by Eva Oliveriusová is the winning photo of the 4th annual American Center photo contest "America Through Your Eyes".
"We voted for the photo because of its emotional appeal," said the American Center director Miroslav Konvalina at the award ceremony on December 15. "The winning picture is definitely different from the others and it makes an impression on you every time you see it," added the director who’s been a member of the jury.
The second prize went to Šárka Peřová for the photo of the New York subway. Blanka Nováková’s picture “Carefree holiday” also from New York City was awarded the third prize.
This year the jury was made up of Miroslav Konvalina (American Center Director), Lenka Klicperová (Editor-in-Chief of the monthly Lide a Zeme) and traveler Petr Horký selected the 10 best photos from 250 pictures submitted by 66 amateur photographers. One picture chosen by the fans of the U.S. Embassy got the special Facebook Prize.
The photos are on display at the American Center until January 15, 2012, along with a collection of photos of the American Southwest by the Czech photographer, traveler Miloslav Martan.
The award ceremony accompanied by the performance of Czech folk&country band Ladybirds was a special treat for the people attending the end-of-the-year party dedicated to all of those who participated in this year’s programs and events. “This year’s flagship program has been without no doubt “Flying to Space with the Little Mole,” said Miroslav Konvalina and thanked the project partners from the Czech Astronomical Institute and Czech Space Office.
