Ambassador Graber Participates at Conference on Asia-Pacific Security Challenges

Ambassador Richard Graber gave the opening remarks at the Asia-Pacific Security Challenges conference, which was mainly focused on the implications events in Asia have for Europe and the Atlantic alliance. The conference took place on September 7–9, 2008 at Prague Security Studies Institute.
In his speech, the Ambassador stressed: "The United States is committed to supporting efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, the rule of law, respect for human rights and religious tolerance in the region. Within Asia, democratic governance is rapidly evolving; human rights are advancing and the roots of democracy grow ever deeper." Ambassador Graber was then interviewed by the initiative Democratic Voice of Burma
Among the panelist was also Richard Lawless, Former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Asia-Pacific Affairs, who spoke about the present and projected dimensions of the ballistic missile threat in the Asia-Pacific region and the most expeditious and effective means to deploy adequate missile defense capabilities.
