Ambassador Graber Discusses U.S. Elections with Political Science and International Relations Students in Pilsen
March 18, 2008
U.S. Ambassador Richard Graber visited the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen on Monday, March 17 to speak to political science students on U.S. Elections and to meet with a group of 18 students from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a long-standing partner of the University in economic programs. The project focuses on case studies of businesses in both countries. Both Czech and U.S. students travel to the partner university once a year.
The Ambassador stressed the very active and long-standing relationship between the University of Western Bohemia and American institutions. These partnerships began through assistance from U.S. government funds, but continued and were enhanced through the energetic efforts of the university. Fulbright exchanges and other co-operation with the Embassy have continued to cement the close relationship.
The University of West Bohemia was founded in 1991 and attracts students from all over the country and also from abroad, its main focus is on students from west Bohemia as it is the only institution of higher education in that part of the country. As a young University, it tends to be more innovative and flexible in adopting new teaching methods and curriculums. The University plays an important role in the West Bohemia Region, including community outreach and co-operation with local businesses.
