TERRORISM FINANCING SPEAKERS IN PRAGUE

The U.S. Embassy Prague organized in cooperation with European Information Centre of Charles University - Centre for Questions of the Fight Against Terrorism and New York University in Prague one day international conference on Combating Terrorism Financing in the Czech Republic in Comparison to National Models of the U.S. and Germany. The conference, that took place in Karolinum of Charles University in Prague first week of October, addressed questions of using investigative and legal tools to combat terrorism financing in practice. Specialists from Germany, the U.S. and the Czech Republic provided practical guidance to issues such as mechanisms of terrorism financing (e.g. Hawalas), usage of investigative techniques, evidence gathering, assets-freezing, interagency cooperation and they also addressed legislatives aspects of combating terrorism financing and problems and possibilities connected to charging decisions of the courts (more information in Czech here)
Jeffrey Breinholt, Deputy Chief of Counter-Terrorism/Terrorism Financing from the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI Acting Unit Chief of the Terrorist Financing Operations Section who attended the conference continued in cooperation with other counterparts such as police officers, prosecutors, judges and ministry officials and shared experience with them at seminars, roundtables and meetings. They also spoke to group of students of Common Law Society and some members of Parliament.
