NASA’s Fifty Years of Ups And Downs
Lecture by James I. Deutsch, Curator of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
When: Tuesday, November 10, 4:30 – 6:00 PM
Where: American Center, Tržiště 13, Praha 1
Please join us at the American Center on Tuesday, November 10 for a lecture by James Deutsch, author and curator of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., who will speak about the successes and failures of NASA during its long history. James Deutsch was the chief curator responsible for planning and producing a program on NASA at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 2008.
The image and reputation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration suffered from a series of very embarrassing incidents in 2007. Indeed, the agency has endured other public relations challenges during its fifty-year history, primarily relating to its ventures in human spaceflight. The agency's reputation recovered slightly in 2008, thanks in part to its participation in that summer's Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Whether NASA will be able to recapture the public's excitement in future space exploration remains to be seen.
James Deutsch is a writer, editor, and curator at two units of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.: the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the American Studies Department at George Washington University.
The event will be held in English.
