Embassy Welcomes Junior Ambassadors from Southern Moravia
November 16, 2007
Ambassador Graber and other Embassy officials welcomed the third group of Junior Ambassadors to the Embassy on November 15. Under the program, the Embassy asks Czech Rotary clubs to nominate the best and brightest students from their region; the students and their Rotary sponsors are then invited to a day at the Embassy, and the students are designated "Junior Ambassadors." The program is intended to introduce the work of the U.S. Embassy to future young leaders of the Czech Republic.
This group of Junior Ambassadors hailed from Southern Moravia, and the students, in addition to excelling scholastically, are multi-talented: one plays the drums in a band called Noise, one just wrote a book, another volunteers as a postman, one works with canine therapy, and many are active in language competitions. The Junior Ambassadors and their Rotary sponsors were briefed at Ambassador Graber's residence on the work of different Embassy sections, followed by a luncheon in their honor. After lunch, they toured the American Center and learned about its resources and received briefings on the work of the consular section and the security office. The day concluded with an awards ceremony in the Ambassador's office, and Ambassador Graber congratulated the students on their achievements and noted that the Embassy will stay in touch with both the sponsors and the Junior Ambassadors.
A fourth installment is planned for April 2008, and the Embassy plans to gather all of the Junior Ambassadors for a reunion event in September 2008.
