Conference on Religious Freedom - "Tough Questions for Islam and the West"

November 1, 2007

American Center Prague supported and cooperated on organizing a conference on religious freedom held at Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty on October 30. The relationship between the Islamic world and the West is one of the most pressing issues confronting the modern world. While neither the West nor the countries where Muslims dominate are homogeneous in culture, politics or even religious thought, there are values, history and interests that unite these worlds, but that also divide them. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Prague Civic Institute, in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the American Center, convened a group of Muslim and Western thinkers, who discussed these difficult questions in a cooperative atmosphere.

Ambassador Graber opened the event together with RFE/RL President Jeffrey Gedmin, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandr Vondra and Civic Institute Director Roman Joch.
