U.S. Embassy Prague Organizes the Two-Day Conference "Transparency and Ethics" in the Senate
September 21, 2007
Billed as the key to economic prosperity and societal trust, anti-corruption themes received wide attention throughout the Czech Republic this week thanks to Embassy-sponsored activities bringing together Czech, American, and European government officials and experts in law, media, and business.
Ambassador Graber kicked off a centerpiece conference co-hosted by the Czech Senate featuring keynote speakers U.S. Attorney Jim Letten from New Orleans and former Congressman Robert Weygand (RI). Separate panels dealt with government ethics, rule of law, business ethics and media transparency.
Over 200 participants took part in the two-day program. Ample radio and news service coverage ensured that conference messages reached a wide swath of the Czech public. Reform measures for stronger government accountability and procurement practices, as well as the creation of special corruption tribunals, will get a boost from this week’s activities.
