American Books in Prague Municipal Library

On September 13, 2007, the U.S. Embassy donated the Library of America to the Municipal Library in Prague. The Library of America is a highly regarded scholarly collection consisting of 150 volumes of the best that American literature has to offer (more on http://www.loa.org/).

Through this donation, the Embassy aims to facilitate broader access for Czech readers to literary masterpieces which are part of the U.S. historical and cultural heritage. Prague Municipal Library is one of four in the Czech Republic that have received this collection so far. 

In the future, the Embassy hopes to make more donations so as to make the American literature and the Library of America more widely available throughout the Czech Republic.  The two institutions also continue to cooperate in introducing noted American literary figures to Czech audiences.
