Ambassador Graber and Czech Minister for Industry and Trade Martin Riman Sign Nuclear Non-Proliferation Agreement
September 18, 2007
U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic Richard Graber and Czech Minister for Industry and Trade Martin Riman signed the “Agreement Concerning Cooperation in the Area of Countering the Proliferation of Nuclear Materials and Technologies” on September 17, 2007.
This Agreement provides a legal framework for the U.S. National Nuclear Safety Administration’s activities in the Czech Republic. These activities include the removal of highly enriched uranium, conversion of the research reactor from highly enriched uranium to low enriched uranium fuel, and security enhancement of the research reactor site and nuclear materials stored at the site.
Ambassador Graber said, "The signature of this Agreement is an example of the international community working collectively to reduce the threat of nuclear terrorism, and is the kind of concrete international security action that increases both U.S. security and that of our allies. The United States Government looks forward to continued future cooperation with the Government of the Czech Republic to implement our mutual commitment to promoting nuclear non-proliferation."
