Chairman Tauscher Stresses Strong Congressional Support for Missile Defense

September 14, 2007

Speaking with Czech journalists September 14, Chairman Ellen Tauscher, Chair of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee, underscored bi-partisan support for missile defense, as well as bi-partisan recognition of the threat to the U.S. and European allies posed by Iran’s missile technology.

“We want a system that is not only defensive, but also a significant deterrent and one that is indivisible in the European theater.”  Chairman Tauscher was joined at the press conference by her Democratic colleague Representative Jim Cooper and Republican Representative Michael Turner. The delegation addressed questions on Congressional funding, accelerating NATO engagement, and the link between the Polish and Czech elements of the missile defense system.
