Congressman Albio Sires Discusses Cuba Issues with Representatives of Czech government

A U.S. Congressional delegation arrived for a two-day visit to Prague on Monday, August 27. Congressman Albio Sires headed the delegation of lawmakers focused on the democratization of Cuba. The main objective of their visit was to meet with government and opposition leaders to thank them for their solidarity with the cause of freedom for Cuba, and to build upon the efforts toward that goal that have already been made.

The U.S. delegation met with representatives of the Czech government and NGOs to discuss possibilities for cooperation and to thank them for their solidarity with the cause of freedom for Cuba.

During their visit to Prague, the delegation met with Czech Foreign Affairs Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, Czech Ambassador to Cuba Vit Korselt, Czech Ambassador to U.S. Petr Kolar and Czech Ambassador to UN Martin Palous. The Congressmembers also visited the memorial to the victims of communism in Petrinske sady. Last but not least, they met with representatives of the non-governmental organization Clovek v tisni (People in Need) which supports activities directly related to democratization Cuba. The delegation continues on Wednesday to Hungary and Poland.
