, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster greater appreciation and pride in America's literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, authoritative editions of America's best and most significant writing.  There are currently more than 150 volumes in the series. 

Max Rudin will make a presentation on “Shadows on the Hudson:  Isaac Bashevis Singer, New York City, and American Literature” at the Prague Woodrow Wilson Center  Tržiště 13, Prague , 1st floor
On Monday, October 16, 2006, 17:00 – 19:00

In 2004, Max Rudin directed “Becoming an American Writer” Isaac Bashevis Singer centennial celebration.  Mr. Rudin's program in Prague has been prepared in co-operation with the Prague Writers’ Festival.  

The Embassy’s current exhibition “Visual Metaphors” by noted American artist Mark Podwal, which includes representations of Prague’s Jewish quarter, will be open for viewing at the event.        

Mr. Rudin writes on American history, literature, music, and popular culture for American Heritage and Raritan magazines.  He created, hosts, and introduces the ongoing program of readings “Great New York Writers in Great New York Places.”  He has served as judge of the James Thurber Prize for American Humor Writing since the prize was created in 1997.  He is currently co-director of a three-year NEH-funded publishing and public programming project devoted to colonial American writing.

Mr. Rudin holds degrees in English and American literature from Princeton University and Columbia University.  He serves on the Board of Directors of The Great Books Foundation and The New York Festival of Song.  Mr. Rudin lives with his wife and two children in New York City.
