"CELEBRATING COMMUNITY: A TRIBUTE TO BLACK FRATERNAL, SOCIAL, AND CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS" (lecture/panel discussion)

By Dr. Brenda Flanagan, writer and professor at Davidson College, North Carolina.

BRENDA FLANAGAN was born in Trinidad and currently resides in Davidson, North Carolina, USA. A prolific writer, Flanagan has received numerous awards and has published a vast array of plays, short stories and one novel. She is currently Professor of English at Davidson College in North Carolina, where she teaches Caribbean and African-American literature, as well as Creative Writing. Her books include the novel "You Alone Are Dancing" (1990) and a collection of short stories titled "In Praise of Island Women and Other Crimes" (2004). Since 2003 she has served as U.S. cultural ambassador to a number of countries. Dr. Flanagan has done extensive research on Czech surrealism and visited the Czech Republic several times in the past ten years.

The lecture and discussion will be IN ENGLISH
