10 Years of Radio Free Europe in Prague

Prague, September 12, 2005

Vaclav Havel and Ambassador Cabaniss
 Vaclav Havel and Ambassador Cabaniss
Ambassador William Cabaniss attended a ceremony on September 12 celebrating RFE/RL’s 10th anniversary in Prague, after moving its headquarters from Munich in 1995.  In his  remarks, the Ambassador made prominent references to both 9/11 and Katrina hurricane victims, thanking the Czech people and government for their solidarity.

Former President Vaclav Havel and current Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek were among other attendants of the meeting.  They spoke eloquently about the importance of the radios’ messages of freedom to the Middle East and Central Asia, harkening back the days when Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty represented a window to the West and a ray of hope for regime changertant messages beamed by its broadcasters and affiliates.
